Blue lotus is native to shallow-flowing rivers and standing water in tropical Africa and mystical Egypt. The blue lotus was already used for ritual purposes in ancient Egypt. This was also known to Pharaoh Ramses 2, which was probably the reason why he had himself buried with the blue lotus.
